He said that it was responsibility of the CEC that he must save the image of the commission by giving people access to information, as it is their fundamental right, adding any such attempt to hide information from people will spoil the image of the ECP.
Khan said that since 2013 general elections, over 30,000 votes have either been included or excluded in NA-122 - a constituency where the PTI chairman had lost 2013 elections to current National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, followed defeat to his party candidate Aleem Khan in a by-election in 2015 but with a thin margin.
The PTI has accused the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of transferring the votes of PTI voters from the said constituency, forcing the party to challenge the victory of the winning candidate with the ECP. Aleem Khan, who lost by-election, has accused both ECP and National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) of being hand in gloves with the PML-N candidate, in transferring the votes to ensure his victory.
Imran Khan's letter to CEC came at a time when the Commission seemed reluctant in sharing the information with his party candidate whether the votes were transferred or not. He reminded the CEC to go through Electoral Rolls Act, 1974, which clearly states that ensuring transparent electoral lists is the responsibility of the ECP, adding the claim made by some responsible ECP officials that changes were made in the electoral lists of NA-122, was beyond comprehension. Khan questioned why the application of Aleem Khan, which is pending since November last year, was not being taken up with the commission. "The ECP must provide the required information as stated in Article 19 of the Constitution," he maintained.
